Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose quality when converting HEIC to JPG?

The conversion uses 92% JPEG quality, which preserves virtually all visible detail. HEIC and JPG are both lossy formats, so there is a minor theoretical quality reduction, but it is imperceptible to the human eye in normal viewing conditions.

Why can't I open HEIC files on my Windows PC?

HEIC is an Apple-developed format that Windows does not natively support without installing additional codecs. Converting to JPG gives you a universally compatible format that works on every operating system, browser, and image viewer without any extra software.

Is there a file size limit for HEIC conversion?

There is no hard limit since the conversion runs entirely in your browser. However, very large files (over 50 MB) may take longer to process depending on your device's memory and processing power. Most iPhone photos are well under 10 MB and convert in seconds.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs 100% in your browser using JavaScript. Your HEIC files are decoded locally on your device and never sent anywhere. Once you close the tab, the converted files are gone from memory. Your photos remain completely private.

Can I convert Live Photos or HEIC sequences?

This tool converts the still image portion of HEIC files. Live Photos contain both a still image and a short video clip — the converter extracts and converts the still photo to JPG. For HEIC image sequences, each frame would need to be exported individually first.
