Resize Images for Instagram Posts, Stories, and Reels

Getting your photos to look crisp on Instagram means uploading at exactly the right pixel dimensions. Too small and Instagram upscales your image into a blurry mess. Wrong aspect ratio and the app crops your carefully composed shot. This tool takes the guesswork out of the process with one-click presets for every Instagram format. Select square, story, or landscape, drop your images, and download perfectly sized files ready to post. No accounts, no watermarks, no server uploads.

How It Works

1

Choose an Instagram Format

Pick from square post, story/reel, or landscape dimensions. Each preset matches the exact pixel sizes Instagram recommends for maximum quality in the feed.

2

Upload Your Photos

Drop one or more images into the upload area. The tool automatically crops and scales each photo to fill the selected Instagram frame without stretching or distortion.

3

Download and Post

Save your perfectly sized images and upload them directly to Instagram. No more awkward cropping surprises or blurry previews in the feed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best image size for Instagram posts?

Instagram displays square posts at 1080x1080 pixels, which is the native resolution for the feed grid. While Instagram accepts images from 320px to 1080px wide, uploading at exactly 1080px ensures your photo is displayed at full quality without any resampling by Instagram servers. Going above 1080px provides no benefit since Instagram will downscale it.

What dimensions should Instagram Stories be?

Instagram Stories and Reels use a 9:16 vertical format at 1080x1920 pixels. This fills the entire phone screen. If your image does not match this ratio, Instagram will either letterbox it with colored bars or crop it automatically, which can cut off important parts of your photo. Resizing beforehand gives you full control over what viewers see.

Will resizing reduce the quality of my photos?

If your original image is larger than the target size, resizing down actually preserves excellent quality because you have more pixel data than needed. The tool uses high-quality bicubic interpolation for smooth results. Upscaling a small image to Instagram dimensions, however, will produce a softer result since the tool cannot create detail that was not in the original.

How does the cropping work for different aspect ratios?

The tool uses a center-crop approach to fill the target dimensions. It scales your image so the shortest dimension matches the target, then trims equal amounts from the edges of the longer dimension. This keeps the center of your photo intact. For off-center subjects, you may want to manually adjust the composition before uploading.

Does this tool upload my photos to any server?

No. The resizing happens entirely in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your images are read from your device, processed in memory, and the result is available for download. Nothing is sent over the internet, which makes this tool safe for unpublished content, client work, or any images you want to keep private before posting.
