How do I resize an image to exact dimensions?

Select "By Dimensions" mode, enter your desired width and height in pixels, then drop your image. If you want the image to fit within those dimensions without distortion, keep "Maintain aspect ratio" checked — the image will be scaled to fit within your specified bounds while preserving its proportions.

What does "maintain aspect ratio" mean?

Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between an image's width and height. When you maintain aspect ratio during resizing, the image scales uniformly — if you make it 50% narrower, it also becomes 50% shorter. This prevents the image from looking stretched or squished.

How do I resize images for social media?

Common social media image sizes: Instagram post (1080x1080), Instagram story (1080x1920), Facebook post (1200x630), Twitter/X post (1600x900), LinkedIn post (1200x627). Enter these dimensions in FileWash and drop your image to resize it perfectly for each platform.

Can I make an image larger (upscale)?

Does resizing an image reduce its quality?

Downscaling (making smaller) generally preserves quality well — you are keeping the most important pixel information. Upscaling (making larger) will reduce apparent quality as the software must generate new pixel data. FileWash uses high-quality bilinear interpolation for the best results in both cases.
